Introducing the UAWD’s Daily Struggle

UAWD (Unite All Workers for Democracy) is launching Daily Struggle, a new worker-led publication to champion a rank-and-file-led class struggle movement within the UAW that will seek to organize, agitate, and mobilize the entire working class. Daily Struggle will provide a platform for workers to speak for themselves, featuring interviews, analysis, and coverage of militant labor struggles written by and for UAW members. To share militant tactics to take back control on the shop floor. To build solidarity across borders and racial and gender divides. To take control over our lives and the resources and infrastructure we rely on to live, both at work and in our communities.
To make the launch of Daily Struggle a success, we will be hosting a launch event on Zoom at 3 pm ET on October 19, featuring guests and speakers from within the UAWD. This event is open to the public, and we encourage UAWD members and supporters to invite coworkers, friends, and fellow working class militants! Please forward this on to individuals or listservs!
We’ll hear from UAWD leaders about their experience as militant shop floor leaders, and the importance of class-struggle unionism at this crucial juncture, both in their workplaces and for the entire working class:
- Jean Duchemin, UAW Local 1753, is a Committeeperson at the General Motors Redistribution Center in Lansing, Michigan
- Sophia Elena Gurulé, UAW Local 2325, is an immigration attorney at Bronx Defenders in New York City
- Rob Lett, UAW Local 112, is a worker organizing his union at Mercedes’ battery plant in Vance, Alabama
We’ll also hear from Toni Gilpin, labor historian and author of The Long Deep Grudge: A Story of Big Capital, Radical Labor, and Class War in the American Heartland, about the historic role of a class struggle unionist approach and how we can learn from shop floor militants from decades ago.
