He is the author of <em>The Mahatma Misunderstood: the politics and forms of literary nationalism in India<\/em> (Anthem Books, 2013).  He has translated Munshi Premchand\u2019s Hindi novel, <em>Sevasadan<\/em> (Oxford, 2005), the Urdu short-story collection, <em>Angaaray<\/em> (Penguin, 2014), Bhisham Sahni\u2019s autobiography, <em>Today\u2019s Pasts<\/em> (Penguin, 2015), with Vasudha Dalmia, Agyeya\u2019s <em>Shekhar: A Life<\/em> (Penguin 2018), and Joginder Paul\u2019s <em>A Single Drop of Blood<\/em> (Penguin 2020).  His translation of Yashpal\u2019s novella, <em>Geeta: A Party Comrade<\/em>, is forthcoming.
