Doves and vultures<\/p>\n

chit and chat,<\/p>\n

and canaries hatch,<\/p>\n

sing warnings for years<\/p>\n

before they die,
\n <\/p>\n

and generations of children<\/p>\n

are born, get degrees,<\/p>\n

and grants to study<\/p>\n

the whys of peace but praise for war,
\n <\/p>\n

while doves and vultures<\/p>\n

still chit and chat<\/p>\n

and presidents and ministers<\/p>\n

flap their wings to Stockholm<\/p>\n

to collect Nobel bling,<\/p>\n

and doves and vultures still<\/p>\n

chit and chat<\/p>\n

and presidents and ambassadors still<\/p>\n

yak, yak, yak,<\/p>\n

and profits slump and profits peak,<\/p>\n

and climate talks also<\/p>\n

chat and yak<\/p>\n

as glaciers melt and icecaps crack,<\/p>\n

while canaries hatch, and canaries die<\/p>\n

alongside miners, underground,<\/p>\n

and ministers speak, and yak, and yak<\/p>\n

while soldiers and airplanes attack<\/p>\n

Palestine, Iran, and again Ukraine<\/p>\n

and profits peak<\/p>\n

and children die<\/p>\n

as shells and missiles strike the land,<\/p>\n

and doves and vultures<\/p>\n

yet chit and chat<\/p>\n

and presidents, ministers<\/p>\n

praise the peace process,<\/p>\n

and children wait,<\/p>\n

and children starve,<\/p>\n

and perhaps grow old\u2014<\/p>\n

unless they die<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and some peace-loving fools,<\/p>\n

dumbfounded,<\/p>\n

ask,<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t they just negotiate?\u201d<\/p>\n
