Submissions
The editors of Tempestmag.org welcome your ideas and submissions at any stage of development!
Types of submissions:
- statements of ideas (2-4 sentences)
- proposals (1-3 paragraphs)
- reports from local movement activity (photos and captions and/or several paragraphs describing what happened)
- interviews
- working drafts of short articles (3000 words or fewer)
- working drafts of longer articles
- complete short or long articles
- reprints from allied publications (unless already easily accessible by our audience)
- responses to published articles
Suggested topics:
- political analysis (national or global)
- economic analysis
- socialist and movement strategy
- socialist, abolitionist, and intersectional theory
- debates about history, the current scene, and strategy
- revolutionary or movement history
- contemporary movements and revolutions
- reviews of books and other media
- analyses of popular culture and cultural history
Ideas can originate from various sources:
- direct from the author
- from a discussion in a Tempest local (including reports on local events and analysis of local issues)
- from the editorial board (when the board calls for writers on specific topics)
Editorial process
If submitting an idea or proposal:
- Correspond with the editors
- If idea is approved, produce (with or without editorial support) a draft essay
- Work with assigned editor to revise submission
- Editorial review
- Possibly additional revisions
- Review
- Publication
If submitting a complete work:
- If approved, work with assigned editor to revise submission
- Editorial review
- Revisions if needed
- Review
- Publication.
We try to get to submissions promptly and move the editorial process along as quickly as we can. We are a small editorial board, and sometimes the process takes longer. We appreciate your patience! We would be very happy to work with you to focus your idea, strengthen a proposal, and develop drafts. If you are looking to develop your confidence in writing and writing skills, we can work closely with you. Please ask us for collaboration when you submit your idea, proposal, report, or essay.
